CAMCORDER AND VCR COMPATIBILITY

List of Compatible Camcorders & VCRs

LPort422: Lport422 is compatible with Control-L (LANC) type camcorders and VCRs which read RC or DV time code. All DV camcorders and DV VCRs with Control-L (LANC) remote control do read timecode and work very well with Lport422.   However, S-VHS and VHS VCRs and camcorders do not transmit timecode to the Control-L serial line and, therefore are not workable for automated editing functions. A functional RS-422 9-pin VTR control cable must be connected and available from your editing system before connecting LPort422 to the system.

LANC Interface: LANC Interface is compatible with Control-L (LANC) type camcorders and VCRs which read RC or DV time code. All DV camcorders and DV VCRs with Control-L (LANC) remote control do read timecode and work very well with Lport422.   However, S-VHS and VHS VCRs and camcorders do not transmit timecode to the Control-L serial line and, therefore are not workable for automated editing functions. A functional RS-422 9-pin VTR control cable must be connected and available from your editing system before connecting LANC Interface to the system.

The general guideline for compatibility is:  If it has LANC control and timecode, it is compatible. Check our compatibility chart for camcorders and VCRs which meet these criteria.

LANC Interface supports both NTSC and PAL standards.

PANPORT422: PanPort422 is compatible with several Panasonic DV camcorders and VCRs. Check the compatibility chart for models supported.  PanPort is available for both NTSC and PAL standards.

KNOWN COMPATIBILITY ISSUES & REQUIREMENTS:

Lport422 and PanPort422 with Avid -- Avid is looking into a problem with Windows based 4.0/10.0 and Mac based 5.0/11.0 and later versions of Avid software. When using Lport422 or PanPort422, a timecode error is given several seconds after digitizing begins. Earlier versions are working correctly with Lport422 and PanPort422. This problem does NOT affect the LANC Interface converter.

Discreet Logic has corrected a problem with their 6.0 edit* software which affected batch capture using Lport422 and PanPort422. Discreet Logic has asked that customers contact Discreet's technical support department and request the "6.0.1.26 Dlcapturer.dll test patch". Call 1-661-242-1500 if you have any problem obtaining this patch.  Later versions of Discreet's software should contain this patch.

Adobe Premiere requires a plug-in/cable package. Call for information.

Controllers Not Compatible: Panasonic AG-A800, Sony FXE-100 and Sony BVE-800

Camcorders/VCRs Not Compatible: S-VHS and VHS format machines do not transmit timecode to the control port and are not compatible for cue-up and preroll during editing.

LANC Interface, Lport422 and PanPort422 do not support the RECORD functions of any VCR or camcorder. Only SOURCE/PLAYER operations are supported.
